Kinds of wedding
Elopement
Just the two of you, or a handful of guests: a cliff, a chapel, a sunrise — two to four hours.
An elopement is your wedding at its most essential: the two of you, perhaps a handful of people, a place that means something, and time to feel it.
Portugal is made for it — Atlantic cliffs, quiet chapels, dunes and vineyards are never far from an airport. Many couples marry legally at home and say their vows here.
Good to know
A few hours is usually enough
Getting ready, the vows, portraits in two or three spots and a toast. Allow longer if you want to travel between places.
The light decides the time
Sunrise and the last hour before sunset give the softest light and the emptiest views. Your photographer will plan the day around them.
Permissions for some places
Some beaches, parks and monuments ask for permission for ceremonies or professional photography. Ask your photographer what they know of the place, and the local council (câmara municipal) when in doubt.

Where
Where it works best
Wild coasts and the islands make the most dramatic elopements; a quinta works when you want a dinner afterwards.
