Finding a photographer
How do you decide which photographers I see?
By what you tell the concierge — the place, the date, the size of the wedding and the style you pick — against what photographers tell us about themselves and the dates in their calendars. Photographers on a paid plan appear higher in lists, and Premium photographers get priority when we suggest three. A plan never changes who is free or what they charge.
Why whole weddings?
Anyone can choose twenty great frames from a hundred weddings. A whole wedding shows how a photographer handles the morning, harsh midday light, the family photos and a dark dance floor — the day you will actually receive.
Are the photographers checked?
Every photographer is approved by a person on our team, after sending three whole weddings — the full days, as their couples received them. We approve, ask for changes, or say no.
Do I need an account?
Not to look around or to use the concierge. You sign in with a code sent to your email when you save a photographer, write to one or book. There is no password.
Which languages do the photographers speak?
Each photographer lists the languages they work in, and you can choose by language. The site and our team work in English and Portuguese.
Booking and paying
How do I book?
On a photographer’s page, choose a package and your date and send a request. When the photographer accepts, you pay the deposit and the date is yours.
How much is the deposit?
30% of the photographer’s price, by card, through Lens & Vows. It is part of the price, not an extra, and it holds your date.
Do you charge couples a fee?
No. You pay the photographer’s own price. The only extra is optional: if you pay the balance through us, there is a 5% payment-protection fee, shown before you pay.
How do I pay the rest?
Your choice. Straight to the photographer, by bank transfer or cash, with nothing extra. Or by card through us, in up to 3 instalments, the last 14 days before the wedding, plus 5%.
When does the photographer get paid?
The deposit includes our commission; the rest of it reaches the photographer 7 days after you book. Anything you pay through us for the balance waits until you accept your gallery — or until 14 days after delivery, when it is accepted automatically.
Can I pay in my own currency?
Yes. Choose it at the top of any page. The price you see is the price you pay, and the rate is fixed for your booking when the deposit is asked for.
Why can’t I see a photographer’s email or phone before booking?
Until the deposit, you talk through Lens & Vows — that is how photographers pay us for introducing you. Once the deposit is paid, contact details are shared and you can talk however you like.
Changes and cancellations
What if we need to change the date?
One change of date is free, if the photographer is free on the new one.
What if we cancel?
The deposit stays — it held your date. Of what you have paid through us for the balance, you get back: more than 6 months before the wedding, all of it; 3 to 6 months, all but 25% of the balance; 30 to 90 days, all but 50%; less than 30 days, nothing. The 5% protection fee is not refunded.
What if the photographer cancels?
You get back everything you paid through us — the deposit and the protection fee included — and we help you find another photographer who is free on your date.
Doesn’t EU law give me 14 days to change my mind?
The EU’s 14-day right of withdrawal for things bought online generally does not apply to leisure services booked for a specific date, such as a wedding (Directive 2011/83/EU, article 16(l)). That is why our cancellation rules are written out in full before you pay.
Getting married in Portugal
Can foreigners marry legally in Portugal?
Yes. A civil wedding goes through a Conservatória do Registo Civil, which asks for documents such as birth certificates, often legalised and translated. Many couples marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony here instead. The Conservatória has the final word for your case.
Getting legally married in PortugalWhen is the best time of year?
For most of the mainland, May–June and September to early October. It depends a lot on the region — the islands and the Algarve have longer seasons.
The best months, region by regionCan we elope in Portugal?
Yes — clifftops, dunes, vineyards and islands, just the two of you or a handful of guests. A symbolic ceremony can be held almost anywhere; some public places need a permit.
