Getting married in Limassol
A seafront city with an old town round a medieval castle, the cliff-top theatre of Kourion above a long beach, and the wine villages on the slopes behind.
Limassol stretches along its bay on the south coast. The Molos, a seafront park of palms and sculptures, leads past the old port and the marina to the old town, whose lanes gather round a stone castle — where, tradition says, Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria of Navarre in 1191; today it houses the Cyprus Medieval Museum. Nineteen kilometres west, the Greco-Roman theatre of Kourion looks out over the sea from its bluff; inland, the villages of the Krasochoria — Omodos, Vasa, Koilani and others — climb the southern slopes of the Troodos among vineyards and wineries.
Couples from abroad marry at the Town Hall or, for an extra fee, in the courtyard of the castle, on the Lambousa pier on the seafront, outside the municipal library or gallery, at the city’s historical archive or in a licensed hotel; Saturdays and ceremonies outside office hours cost more too. Afterwards: a walk through the old town and along the sea at sunset, or a drive up to a wine village for a long dinner.

Through the year
When to marry in Limassol
April, May and October are the easiest months: at the Department of Meteorology’s station in the new port, highs averaged about 23 °C in April, 27 °C in May and 28 °C in October over 2016–2025, with rain on two or three days a month at most. June and September are already hot, 30–31 °C, and July and August about 33 °C, with days above 35 °C every summer; it hardly rains from June to September. Winter is mild, with highs of 18–20 °C, but December and January bring rain on about ten days a month.

- SpringWild flowers on the hills and at Kourion, new leaves on the vines in the villages, and a sea that stays cool until June.
- SummerHot, humid and cloudless, with the city out on the seafront until late. Keep the ceremony for the last two hours of light, with shade and water for the guests, or head up to the wine villages, where the evenings are fresher.
- AutumnHarvest time in the wine villages, a sea still warm into November and the first rain late in October; the light softens, and the stone of the old town turns gold in the afternoon.

Places
Where couples marry here
The kinds of places — ask your photographer which ones they know well.
The old town and the castle
Stone houses with blue shutters, the old port and the castle courtyard, where the municipality holds civil weddings: the Department of Antiquities allows them there on an application through the municipality at least a month ahead, with no flowers, rice or confetti thrown.
The marina and the Molos
Yachts and quays at the marina, then the long seafront park of palms and sculptures; the Lambousa pier, where couples can also marry, catches the last light over the bay.
Kourion
The theatre on its bluff, with the long beach and the white cliffs to the west below — among the most impressive ancient remains on the island. It is open until 19:30 from mid-April to mid-September and until 17:00 in winter; a professional photo shoot there needs a letter to the Director of the Department of Antiquities first, so ask well ahead. The beach below has lifeguards from April to October.
The wine villages
Omodos, at 800 metres, with its cobbled square, and the other villages of the Krasochoria: wineries, tavernas and stone lanes for a long lunch or dinner after the vows. The wildfire of July 2025 reached several of them — Arsos, Koilani, Lofou and Vasa among others — while Omodos was saved; ask how the village you have in mind looks today.
Light
How the light falls
Limassol’s bay faces south, so the sun sets to the side, over the land to the west, rather than into the sea in front; on the stone of the old town and the water of the marina the last hour is warm and golden. At midsummer the sun sets at about four minutes past eight and rises at about twenty-five to six; at midwinter it sets at about twenty to five. In July and August the light is already hard by mid-morning, so early portraits in the old town, before the heat, are a good alternative to the evening.
Travel
Getting there
Larnaca airport is about 70 km away and Paphos airport about 60 km, both by motorway. The old town, the castle and the seafront are walkable; Kourion and the wine villages need a car — Omodos is 42 km up in the hills. Drones follow the EU rules, with operators registered on drones.gov.cy; check the Department of Civil Aviation’s own zone map, not the one built into the drone, and never fly near a fire while aircraft are fighting it. The Department of Meteorology’s heat warnings for the south coast start at 39 °C; in a heatwave the Ministry of Health advises keeping out of the sun from 11:00 to 17:00.
