Getting married in Ibiza
A walled old town above the harbour, whitewashed village churches and sunsets behind Es Vedrà — on an island where the summer sets the rules.
Ibiza is small — the airport is 7 km from Ibiza town — and it has two sides. One is the summer island of nightclubs and full flights. The other is older: a countryside of whitewashed farmhouses (casas payesas), village churches built as refuges from pirates, and Dalt Vila, the upper town inside its 16th-century walls, which UNESCO listed in 1999 together with the island’s Posidonia seagrass meadows.
A wedding here is planned around the light and the neighbours. Ceremonies start late, so that the portraits fall in the last hour before the sun sets over the sea to the west. And music has rules: a holiday villa is not a wedding venue unless its owner says so in writing. For a calmer island, choose late May, June or the second half of September.

Ceremonies
Where couples marry in Ibiza
Dalt Vila’s cloister and bastions
The Ajuntament d’Eivissa offers its own spaces in the old town: the council chamber, the 16th-century cloister of the Dominican convent (150 standing or 80 seated) and two Renaissance bastions — Santa Llúcia, over the harbour and the sea (1,000 or 500), and Sant Pere (250 or 150).
Old farmhouses in the countryside
Whitewashed farmhouses with courtyards and terraces for dinner outside; the town hall even offers one of its own, the 17th-century Can Tomeu, for small country weddings. At any private venue, ask to see the events licence and the time the music must stop.
White village churches
For a Catholic wedding, whitewashed churches, several built as fortresses against pirates: Puig de Missa on its hill above Santa Eulària, Sant Miquel behind its thick walls, Sant Josep with the only church sundial on the island.
A cove or a beach
Beaches are public coast: a ceremony with chairs or an arch on the sand needs the Balearic government’s coast department and the town hall. Many couples marry at a venue near the sea and go down to the water only for portraits.

Portraits
Where to take your portraits
Torre des Savinar, facing Es Vedrà
An old watchtower on the cliffs above Cala d’Hort, facing the islet of Es Vedrà, a nature reserve since 2002. Sunset is the moment, and in summer you won’t be alone; since March 2026 the paths are marked and fenced to stop erosion — stay on them.
Dalt Vila in the late afternoon
Gates, ramparts and lanes above the harbour, with the sea below the bastions. The low evening sun warms the stone; give yourselves time for the walk up.
Cala Comte and the western islets
The sun setting behind the islets of Ponent — Es Bosc, Sa Conillera, Ses Bledes and S’Espartar. A favourite sunset spot: in July and August, come early.
Ses Salines
Salt pans, dunes and the beach of es Cavallet in the natural park in the south of the island, with flamingos among its birds. Evening light on still water; drones there need the park’s authorisation in advance.
Through the year
When to marry in Ibiza
AEMET’s normals for Ibiza airport: average highs of 22.7 °C in May, 26.8 °C in June, 30.3 °C in August and 27.7 °C in September, with August nights around 22 °C. June to August are almost dry, with about 300 hours of sun a month or more; September and October have the year’s most thunderstorm days. Crowds peak in July and August — the airport handled 1,481,444 passengers in August 2025 alone (Aena).

Practical
Good to know before the day
Music and the neighbours
Since 2025 Balearic law makes holiday-rental contracts forbid parties and events that disturb the neighbours, and owners must have guests leave within 24 hours if one happens. Santa Eulària’s 2026 noise ordinance lets the police seal sound equipment on the spot. Book a place licensed for events.
Natural parks
Photo shoots in protected areas such as Cala d’Hort and Ses Salines need the Govern’s authorisation and a daily fee, which family events on private estates don’t pay. Ask well before the date.
Drones
Near the airport, in the south, drones are banned within 6 km of each runway end and 5 km either side unless coordinated with it (Real Decreto 517/2024). Beaches with facilities count as urban areas, with five days’ notice to the Interior Ministry.
The legal route
A civil wedding needs one of you domiciled in Spain; otherwise, a Catholic wedding prepared through your home parish, or the legal wedding at home and a symbolic ceremony here.
Questions
Questions about marrying in Ibiza
Can we get married on a beach in Ibiza?
Yes, with permits from the Balearic government’s coast department and the town hall, and in a natural park such as Ses Salines the park’s rules apply as well. The simpler way is a venue by the sea, with portraits on the beach.
Can we have our wedding at a rented villa in Ibiza?
Only if the owner allows events in writing and the place is licensed for them. Holiday-rental contracts must forbid parties that disturb the neighbours, and town halls enforce noise limits, so get the music cut-off in writing before you sign.
Where are the best sunset spots for photos in Ibiza?
Torre des Savinar above Cala d’Hort, facing Es Vedrà, and Cala Comte, with the sun going down behind the western islets. Both are busy on summer evenings: arrive early, or take the portraits on a west-facing terrace at your venue.
When is the best time to get married in Ibiza?
Late May, June and the second half of September: average highs of about 23–28 °C at the airport (AEMET), little rain and fewer people than in July and August. Keep a covered plan for the September storms.
Can we marry legally in Ibiza?
By civil law only if one of you lives in Spain, since the file is opened where one of you is domiciled; the Ajuntament d’Eivissa then marries couples in Dalt Vila. Otherwise, a Catholic wedding through your home parish, or a legal wedding at home and a symbolic ceremony here.
