Bridges over the Seine, pale stone façades and rooftop views — a city for vows and portraits, with châteaux in the country around it.
Paris is a city to walk through on your wedding day: the bridges and quays of the Seine, whose banks are a UNESCO World Heritage site, wide avenues of pale stone, gardens of clipped trees, café terraces, and the grey zinc rooftops seen from the hill of Montmartre.
Some couples keep the city for an elopement and the portraits; others marry in a private mansion or on a rooftop, or take the guests out to one of the châteaux of the Île-de-France, an hour or so away.

Through the year
May, June, July and September bring long, mild days, and in late June the sun sets close to ten at night. Paris has no dry season: showers come in any month, a little less often in summer. In August many Parisians leave town and some restaurants close, and a heatwave is possible.

Places
The kinds of places — ask your photographer which ones they know well.
Old town houses with a cobbled courtyard, gilded salons and a garden behind — a ceremony and dinner in the heart of the city.
Terraces above the zinc roofs for drinks at sunset, with the city’s domes and towers all around.
Castles and country houses with formal French gardens in the Île-de-France — room for everyone, an hour or so from the city.
The Seine at dawn, stone bridges, quiet squares and avenues of trees in the parks for portraits — before the city wakes up.
Light
Paris light is soft and often filtered through high cloud, and the pale limestone of the buildings throws it back, so even grey days photograph well. In summer the sun sets late and the golden hour lingers along the river. The famous viewpoints fill up by mid-morning: photographers who want them empty start at sunrise.
Travel
Fly into Charles de Gaulle or Orly; trains from London, Brussels and Amsterdam arrive in the centre of the city. Inside Paris the Métro and walking beat the car; the châteaux around it are reached by car or coach.
