The comune marries couples in Juliet’s House, a 15th-century notaries’ chapel and the town hall’s tapestry room — then come the Adige, its bridges and the hill across the river.
Verona is the largest city in the Veneto, about 255,000 people on a deep bend of the Adige, and its centre has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000: a Roman arena, a Roman bridge, Piazza delle Erbe on the old forum. It is also the city of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, and the comune has turned that into its wedding service, “Sposami a Verona” — marry me in Verona — open to couples from anywhere.
Its finest rooms are museums and monuments, open to visitors for the rest of the day, lent for ceremonies of 30 or 60 minutes; villas around the city are registry offices too. So a Verona wedding is usually a city wedding on foot: vows in the centre, portraits by the river and on the hill of Castel San Pietro, dinner in a palazzo or out in a villa.

Ceremonies
A medieval house in Via Cappello, restored in the early 20th century by Antonio Avena, with the balcony and, in the courtyard, Nereo Costantini’s bronze Juliet. Ceremonies of 60 minutes every day; the comune’s rates, revised in March 2025, ask €800 when both of you live outside the province of Verona or abroad. The courtyard stays open to the public.
In Palazzo della Ragione, between Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza dei Signori: the chapel of the College of Notaries, built between 1408 and 1419, its walls and vaults hung with paintings from around 1700. No more than 40 people may come in; €800 for couples from outside the province.
The neoclassical town hall on Piazza Bra has been the city’s seat since 1869. Its tapestry room, on the main floor, is named for the tapestries hung there after the Second World War and holds two huge late-16th-century canvases. €800 for couples from outside the province.
In a 13th-century Franciscan convent, whose crypt holds the sarcophagus said to be Juliet’s tomb. The Sala delle Muse, a rebuilt 16th-century room, takes 60-minute ceremonies (€600 for couples from outside the province); the Sala Galtarossa, for up to 60 people, adds 30-minute ceremonies on Thursdays (€400).
The comune also lists villas and palazzi as registry offices — among them Villa Arrighi at Mizzole, its look set in the late 1600s, and Villa Buri, an 18th-century villa. A civil wedding there costs €800: €500 to the comune and at most €300 to the owner; the dinner is agreed with the house.

Portraits
The Roman bridge over the Adige, finished around 100 BC. Four of its five arches were blown up in April 1945; the bridge was rebuilt by 1957. Walk it, or take it from the riverbank below.
The hill across the river, with the old town, the bridges and the bend of the Adige below you. Since 2017 an inclined lift has replaced the old funicular; in summer it runs from 10:00 to 21:00, in winter until 17:00. In mid-June the sun sets just after the last ride (21:06 on 15 June 2027): go up by lift and come down on foot.
The garden of Palazzo Giusti, open every day of the year but Christmas (9:00 to 19:00 in summer). Professional shoots, weddings and proposals included, need the management’s authorisation beforehand and may carry a fee; without it they can’t take place.
Two squares side by side on the old Roman forum, with Palazzo della Ragione between them — right outside the Cappella dei Notai. Piazza delle Erbe has its market stalls under white umbrellas; Piazza dei Signori, next door, gives a cleaner frame.
Through the year
Verona Villafranca, the nearest official station (Aeronautica Militare, 1971–2000), averages highs of 22.7 °C in May, 26.3 °C in June, 29.2 °C in July and 24.4 °C in September, with rain on 6 to 9 days a month and about 31 days a year at 30 °C or more. Fog is a winter matter — 79 days a year, 18 of them in January. On 15 June 2027 the sun sets at 21:06, with golden light from 20:21 to 21:29 (NOAA’s solar equations); on 15 September at 19:28. The Arena’s opera festival runs from 11 June to 11 September 2027: book hotels early.
Venice & the Veneto, month by month
Practical
Verona’s airport, Villafranca, is 10 km south-west of the city. Porta Nuova station sits on the Milan–Venice line and the lines to Bologna and, over the Brenner, to Innsbruck. The centre is walkable: Piazza Bra, Juliet’s House and Piazza delle Erbe are minutes apart.
The rooms are museums: no rice, no food or drink, no moving the furniture. Flash is allowed where the museum’s rules allow it, flowers are yours to bring and clear within your slot, and the way in can change at the last minute if another event is on. If a room becomes unavailable, the comune offers one of equal standing.
From 1 October, Verona’s winter anti-smog rules bar the more polluting vehicles from its streets on weekdays from 8:30 to 19:30. If you book a vintage car for an autumn or winter wedding, check that it may drive in the city.
Book the date, hour and room up to a year ahead with the comune’s online form. Bring passports or ID cards, a witness each, an interpreter if either of you doesn’t understand Italian, each foreign partner’s nulla osta and the ISTAT form signed by both. Our guide to getting married in Italy sets out the steps.
Questions
Yes: the comune holds civil weddings of 60 minutes in its Sala Capuleti every day, at €800 for couples who both live outside the province of Verona or abroad (rates revised in March 2025). The courtyard under the balcony stays open to visitors throughout.
Up to one year before the date, through the comune’s online form; its page gives 30 days as the longest wait for an answer. The wedding office answers by phone from Monday to Friday, 12:00 to 13:00, and by email.
The Sala Galtarossa at the Museo degli Affreschi takes up to 60 people, couple, witnesses and celebrant included; the Cappella dei Notai takes no more than 40. For more guests, look at the villas the comune lists as registry offices.
Only with the garden management’s authorisation, asked for beforehand; depending on the shoot there may be a fee, and without authorisation the shoot can’t happen. The garden is open every day except Christmas Day.
The last hour before sunset from Castel San Pietro: in mid-June the sun sets at about 21:06, just after the lift’s last ride at 21:00, so plan to walk down. In September the sun sets at about 19:30 and the heat has eased (24.4 °C average high).
