# What a wedding photographer costs in Austria, and what changes the price

> Austrian photographers’ own price lists put a full wedding day at €1,600–€3,725 as of October 2026, with a median of €2,200. Sixteen lists region by region, with what they include and their dates, beside Bridebook’s estimates and a survey; what moves the price — two ceremonies, the Agape, the mountains, VAT and the small-business rule — and how paying works on Lens & Vows.

**In short**

- Austrian photographers’ own price lists put a full wedding day at €1,600–€3,725 as of October 2026: across 13 lists from Vienna, Salzburg, Tyrol, Carinthia, Upper Austria and Styria, the median 8-hour or whole-day package is €2,200, and nine of the thirteen sit between €1,980 and €2,500.
- Shorter and longer days in the same lists: a registry office or two to three hours €390–€1,690 (median €800), four to six hours €1,190–€1,990 (median €1,490), ten to twelve hours or no time limit €2,190–€4,525 (median €2,990).
- Salzburg’s lists are the dearest, with full days from €2,200 to €3,725; Carinthia’s, Styria’s and Upper Austria’s run €1,600–€2,250, and a July 2026 survey of 45 photographers in Vienna and Lower Austria found full days of €1,550–€3,300 and no published photography-only price above €3,000.
- Austria’s standard VAT rate is 20%, and prices offered to private customers must include it, but a photographer under the €55,000 small-business threshold charges none: of the 16 lists, four say VAT is included, one charges none, one calls its prices final and ten don’t say.
- On Lens & Vows every photographer sets their own price and you pay that price: a 30% deposit when they accept, and the balance straight to them or through us, in up to 3 instalments with an optional 5% payment-protection fee.

Every photographer on Lens & Vows sets their own price, and the same photographer may charge differently for a two-hour elopement on a Tuesday in March and a full Saturday in May — so no single figure is “the price”. What does exist are the prices Austrian photographers publish on their own sites. On 15 October 2026 we read the price lists of 16 of them, in Vienna, Salzburg, Tyrol, Carinthia, Upper Austria and Styria, and set them out below with their dates, beside what platforms and surveys publish. The only figures of our own are the medians — the middle value of the lists that price the same length of day; every other number is someone’s published one.

In short, the price follows **time** (an Austrian wedding day can hold a registry office, a church or free ceremony, the Agape and a party), **people** (one photographer or two), **extras** (an album, an engagement or after-wedding shoot, video), **travel** — lifts, mountain huts and lakes included — **when** you marry, and **tax**. For the whole wedding, Bridebook says couples in Austria spend between €10,000 and €30,000.

## What do wedding photographers in Austria charge?

Sixteen price lists, read on 15 October 2026, from photographers who publish prices on their own sites — about half don’t, a Vienna photographer found when he went through 45 of them. Most are “from” prices: the binding quote follows a talk about your day. Photographers are named by studio or brand, or by first name and initial.

Read it as a span, not a point. Across the thirteen lists that price a full day — the 8-hour package, or the whole-day one where a list has no 8-hour package — the median is **€2,200** and the spread **€1,600–€3,725**; nine of the thirteen sit between €1,980 and €2,500. The cheapest full day, €1,600 near Linz, includes a drone and travel anywhere in Upper Austria; the dearest, €3,725 for 8 hours near Salzburg, includes VAT but charges travel by the kilometre. That is why a headline price says little until you line up what each one includes: hours, photographers, photos, travel and tax.

## How do prices differ across Austria?

By region, from the same lists, with what else is published about each. Two or three lists a region show where prices sit; they are not an average.

| Region | A full day in its price lists | Shorter days | Also published |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Vienna](https://lensandvows.com/austria/vienna) and Lower Austria | €2,480 (8 hours); €3,000 (the whole day) | 4 hours €1,480–€1,750 | Bridebook: noticeably dearer than the countryside. A survey of 45 photographers’ prices (July 2026): a full day of 8–12 hours €1,550–€3,300, and no published photography-only price above €3,000 |
| [Salzburg](https://lensandvows.com/austria/salzburg) | From €2,200; from €3,000; €3,725 (8 hours) | Registry office from €1,200; 3 hours €1,690 | Bridebook: noticeably dearer than the countryside |
| [Tyrol](https://lensandvows.com/austria/tyrol) | €2,200 (Zillertal) and €2,500 (Innsbruck), 8 hours; 6 hours or more from €2,100 | Registry office, 2 hours, €550; 4–5 hours €1,400–€1,500; an elopement from €800 | Bridebook: Innsbruck is noticeably dearer than the countryside |
| [Carinthia](https://lensandvows.com/austria/carinthia) | €1,980 and €2,000 (8 hours) | 2 hours €590–€800; 4–6 hours €1,200–€1,590; two photographers from €1,990 | — |
| Upper Austria | €1,600 and €2,200 (8 hours) | 2 hours €950; 4 hours €1,750 | A Linz photographer’s guide (2026), for 8–12 hours: entry up to about €1,500, middle €1,500–€2,800, premium from €2,800 |
| Styria | €1,990 and €2,250 (8 hours) | Registry office €390–€560; 2 hours €750; 4 hours €1,190 | — |

The pattern in the lists: Salzburg’s are the dearest, Vienna’s next, Tyrol’s in the middle, and Carinthia’s, Styria’s and Upper Austria’s the lowest. Bridebook says photographers in Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck cost noticeably more than in the countryside, and the Vienna survey that tourism regions run higher than the east; a Linz photographer argues that the old gap between Vienna and the other states has mostly closed. Where a photographer lives matters most through travel: seven of the sixteen lists include it only within their own state or area, so ask for the price at your venue.

## Registry office, half day or full day: what does each cost?

The same lists by length of day, beside the Vienna survey and Bridebook’s estimates, which it calls rough. As of October 2026:

| Coverage | Photographers’ price lists, October 2026 | Survey of 45 photographers in Vienna and Lower Austria, July 2026 | Bridebook Austria, July 2026 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Registry office, or 2–3 hours | €390–€1,690 in 9 lists; median €800 | 1.5–4 hours: €350–€1,200 | 2–3 hours: under €800 |
| 4–6 hours | €1,190–€1,990 in 10 lists; median €1,490 | €950–€2,100 | €800–€1,500 |
| A full day, about 8 hours | €1,600–€3,725 in 13 lists; median €2,200 | 8–12 hours: €1,550–€3,300 | 8–10 hours: €1,500–€2,500 |
| 10–12 hours, or no time limit | €2,190–€4,525 in 10 lists; median €2,990 | — | 10–14 hours: €2,500–€3,500 |
| An elopement | From €800 in Tyrol; 4 hours €5,700 from an elopement specialist, her travel and room included | — | — |
| The high end | 10 hours near Salzburg €4,525; the whole day with a film and albums in Vienna €4,800; an elopement specialist’s full day €7,800 | About €3,500–€7,000 | From €3,500 |

What each length buys, in Bridebook’s estimate: 2–3 hours, the registry office and a couple shoot with basic editing; 4–6 hours, 200–400 edited photos; 8–10 hours, from getting ready to the party with 400–700 photos, a gallery and a USB stick, a meeting and a location check; 10–14 hours, 600–1,000 photos and a slideshow or photo book, sometimes a second photographer or an after-wedding shoot; the top tier, an assistant or a second photographer, 1,000+ photos and a premium album. The lists that count their photos give 250–800 for about 8 hours.

## What do platforms and surveys say?

Platforms, surveys and directories publish figures of their own. They measure different things — an estimate, a survey of photographers, a directory’s guide — so the second column matters as much as the third. Two are from 2019; we keep them because their date shows how far prices have moved.

| Who published it | What it measures | Price | When |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Michael K., a Vienna photographer’s survey of 45 photographers’ published prices | Vienna and Lower Austria: registry office, 1.5–4 hours; 4–6 hours; 8–12 hours; premium | €350–€1,200; €950–€2,100; €1,550–€3,300; about €3,500–€7,000 | July 2026 |
| Stefan P., a Linz photographer’s guide | Upper Austria, 8–12 hours with editing: entry; middle; premium | Up to about €1,500; €1,500–€2,800; from €2,800 | Updated October 2026 |
| Bridebook Austria, photographer cost guide | A full day of 8–10 hours | €1,200–€2,500 | Updated 28 July 2026 |
| Bridebook Austria, budget guide | A full-day reportage | €1,500–€3,500 | Updated 28 July 2026 |
| Bridebook Austria, videographer guide | What a wedding photographer usually costs | €2,000–€2,500 | Updated 28 July 2026 |
| Fearless Photographers, survey | A basic package: up to 10 hours, 600–1,000 images, taxes included | €2,600 (3 photographers); Germany €3,050 (10) | 2025 |
| hochzeits-fotograf.info, survey of photographers (reported by Tips) | 4, 8 and 12 hours; an extra hour | €770; €1,460; €1,870; about €130 | January 2019 |
| Herold, Austria’s business directory, Vienna guide | 1, 3, 5, 8 and 12 hours | €300–€400; €500–€700; €800–€1,000; €1,400–€1,600; €2,000–€2,500 | December 2019 |
| Bridebook Germany, Wedding Report 2026 | What couples in Germany spend; a full day of 8–10 hours | €1,656 on average; about €1,940 (€500–€3,400) | Updated 28 July 2026 |

The photographers’ lists sit inside these figures. Bridebook’s two full-day ranges, €1,200–€2,500 and €1,500–€3,500, bracket them; Fearless Photographers’ €2,600 for up to 10 hours, from only three Austrian photographers, sits in their upper half; the Vienna survey found the same span for 8–12 hours. The 2019 surveys put 8 hours at €1,460 and 12 at €1,870 — today’s 8-hour median of €2,200 is about half as much again, though the samples differ. Bridebook adds that many photographers are booked one to two years ahead for the popular months.

## What is the price made of?

### Hours — and a day in several parts

Many Austrian weddings come in parts: the civil ceremony at the Standesamt — legally the only one that counts, and expected before a church wedding, sometimes in another town — then a church or free ceremony, then the Agape — drinks and small bites straight after the ceremony, when every guest is there — and dinner and dancing. In the countryside, customs such as the Brautentführung, when friends spirit the bride away to an inn and the groom has to find her, can stretch the night. Timetables matter too: Vienna’s weddings at approved places on weekdays are at 16:00 or 18:00, on Saturdays from 10:00. Ask where a package’s hours begin and end, and what an extra hour costs: €250 and €300 in two 2026 lists, about €130 in the 2019 survey. [How many hours you need](https://lensandvows.com/journal/how-many-hours-wedding-photography) and [getting married in Austria](https://lensandvows.com/journal/getting-married-in-austria) explain the rest.

### The hours you don’t see

Every hour of shooting is followed by work at the desk: backing up, choosing, editing colour and light, building the gallery. Vanessa & Markus count 30–40 working hours behind each wedding; two 2026 lists promise 70–100 edited photos an hour, another about 50. It is a large part of what you pay for, and the part couples most often underestimate — [how many wedding photos to expect](https://lensandvows.com/journal/how-many-wedding-photos).

### One photographer or two

A second photographer covers both of you getting ready, the ceremony from two angles and the guests at the Agape while the first works on portraits. Some lists include one: Allmoments in Graz in every package, Schneewittchen on request from its 4-hour package at no extra cost, and Tanja und Josef on the Wörthersee always come as a pair. In Bridebook’s tiers a second photographer appears from €2,500–€3,500, and the top tier comes with an assistant or a second photographer. [Do you need a second photographer?](https://lensandvows.com/journal/second-shooter-wedding-photographer)

### Travel, lifts and lakes

Bridebook names distance and overnight stays among the things that raise a price, and Austria spreads out: from Vienna, Salzburg is about two and a half hours by train and the Carinthian lakes three to four. Seven of the sixteen lists include travel within their own area — Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland; the state of Salzburg; Carinthia; Upper Austria; Styria — and one Salzburg list charges €0.95 a kilometre. In the mountains, ask who pays the photographer’s lift ticket and room, and when the last lift goes down — Innsbruck’s Seegrube, at 1,905 metres, is yours alone only from 18:00. On the lakes, much of the shore belongs to the federal forests, the Österreichische Bundesforste, who look after 74 lakes; their tariff for commercial shoots lists wedding photos at a 100% discount, so a portrait session on their land costs no fee, though their terms ask for a written agreement first. [A photographer based in Austria, or one you fly in](https://lensandvows.com/journal/local-vs-destination-photographer) works through the trade-off.

### Season, weekday and demand

Austria’s weddings crowd into a few months: in 2025 May was the busiest, with 7,197 civil weddings, then August (5,927) and September (5,715), and Saturday 24 May alone had 844 (Statistik Austria). A photographer can be at one wedding a day, so those Saturdays go first — Bridebook says many photographers are booked one to two years ahead for the popular months. A Friday or a weekday is easier to find free: ask whether it costs less. Some lists already price for it: Allmoments sells its two-hour package from May to October on weekdays only, and Schneewittchen offers a four-hour Monday-to-Thursday wedding at €990 and takes up to €450 off for booking early. Vienna’s registry office charges less on weekdays too, for a wedding at an approved place: €670, against €995 on a Saturday. More in [the best time to marry in Austria](https://lensandvows.com/journal/best-time-to-marry-in-austria).

### What you take home, and what you may use

- **An online gallery** is the usual deliverable; many lists add a USB stick, In Frame a box of 20 prints, and Bridebook’s tiers a slideshow or a photo book from about 10 hours.
- **An album** adds design and printing: from €400 (Stefan P.) or €600 (In Frame), or included in a top package — Stefan P.’s whole day at €2,800, Jukka P.’s at €3,200.
- **Video** is a separate trade: Bridebook puts a basic 4–6-hour video at €1,200–€2,000 and a full day with a highlight film at €2,000–€3,500. In the lists, In Frame adds a 6-minute film for €1,000, Allmoments a highlight clip for €600, and Lichtraum’s 8 hours of photos and video cost €4,300 against €2,500 for photos alone. See [photographer, videographer or both](https://lensandvows.com/journal/photographer-videographer-or-both).
- **[Film photography](https://lensandvows.com/styles/film)** costs extra; **drone photos** come free in some lists (Stefan P., Allmoments, In Frame’s whole day), and a drone needs its operator registered with Austro Control and stays within the open category’s limits — more in [where to elope in Austria](https://lensandvows.com/journal/where-to-elope-in-austria).
- **Usage rights.** Several 2026 lists put private use of the photos in writing; Bridebook reports couples who later paid several hundred to over a thousand euros to use their own photos as they wished. Get in writing what you may do with them.

## Is VAT included?

It depends on the photographer — and the law is on your side. Austria’s standard rate of Umsatzsteuer is 20% (Umsatzsteuergesetz § 10). A photographer whose turnover stays under the small-business threshold — €55,000 a year, with a 10% tolerance in the year it is crossed (§ 6, as in force since January 2026) — is a Kleinunternehmer and charges no VAT at all; one Salzburg list says so outright: “Endbeträge, keine Umsatzsteuer” (final amounts, no VAT). A VAT-registered photographer must show couples the gross price: Austria’s price-labelling act requires prices offered to consumers to include VAT and every other charge, and a net price may appear only beside the gross one (Preisauszeichnungsgesetz §§ 1 and 9). Of the 16 lists above, four say VAT is included, one charges none, one calls its prices final and ten don’t say. So compare final prices, and if a quote adds 20% at the end, ask why: €2,000 net is €2,400 gross.

## The package types on Lens & Vows

Photographers here describe what they offer in a few shared shapes, so you can compare like with like. Within each, prices vary from photographer to photographer for all the reasons above.

| Package | Coverage | Suits |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [Elopement](https://lensandvows.com/weddings/elopement) | Two to four hours | Just the two of you, or a handful of people; a ceremony and portraits by a lake or on a mountain |
| [Intimate wedding](https://lensandvows.com/weddings/intimate) | Set by each photographer for a smaller day | A small guest list: the Standesamt, portraits, a long lunch or dinner |
| [Full day](https://lensandvows.com/weddings/full-day) | Eight to twelve hours | From getting ready into the party — ask whether it covers both ceremonies and the Agape |
| [Destination](https://lensandvows.com/weddings/destination) | Several days | Guests travelling from abroad: a welcome evening, the wedding, an after-wedding shoot |

## How do we compare quotes fairly?

- **The same hours**, from the same start to the same finish — both ceremonies, the Agape, the first dance.
- **The same deliverables**: gallery, USB stick, album, engagement or after-wedding shoot, video, drone — included or extra.
- **How many photos**, roughly, and when the full gallery arrives.
- **Travel**: the distance included, the price beyond it, lift tickets, rooms.
- **A second photographer** and **overtime**: who has one, and what an extra hour costs.
- **Tax**: the final price with VAT, or a Kleinunternehmer’s price without it — never a net price with 20% added at the end.
- **Usage rights**: what you may do with the photos.

Then look at whole weddings, not just a portfolio of best shots: [how to choose a wedding photographer](https://lensandvows.com/journal/how-to-choose-a-wedding-photographer) takes the decision step by step, and [the contract checklist](https://lensandvows.com/journal/wedding-photography-contract-checklist) covers what to get in writing.

## Red flags

- **No written contract**, or one that leaves out the date, hours, deliverables, tax, usage rights or delivery time.
- **Only highlights.** If a photographer can’t show a single whole wedding, ask why.
- **Pressure to pay everything up front, off the platform.** On Lens & Vows the deposit is always paid through us, and contact details are shared once it is paid. If someone asks you to pay it another way, [tell us](https://lensandvows.com/contact).
- **A price that moves** after you have agreed it — including VAT that appears only on the invoice.

## How paying works on Lens & Vows

You pay the photographer’s own price. When they accept your request, you pay a **30% deposit** through us (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or MB WAY in euros), which holds the date; our commission comes out of that deposit, never on top. The **balance** is your choice: straight to the photographer — bank transfer, cash, their usual terms — with no fee from us; or by card through us, in up to 3 instalments, plus a **5% payment-protection fee** shown up front. Paid through us, the balance reaches the photographer only after you accept your gallery. The details are on [payment protection](https://lensandvows.com/payment-protection) and in [how deposits and payment protection work](https://lensandvows.com/journal/deposits-and-payment-protection).

## Questions couples ask

### How much does a wedding photographer cost in Austria?

As of October 2026, Austrian photographers’ own price lists put a full day of about 8 hours at €1,600–€3,725, with a median of €2,200 across 13 lists; a registry office or two to three hours costs €390–€1,690 (median €800), and four to six hours €1,190–€1,990. Platforms agree: Bridebook gives €1,200–€2,500 for 8–10 hours and €1,500–€3,500 for a full day. Compare quotes for the same hours, deliverables and tax.

### Is a wedding photographer dearer in Vienna or Salzburg?

Salzburg’s published lists are the highest we found, with full days from €2,200 to €3,725, and Vienna’s two run €2,480–€3,000, against €1,600–€2,250 in Carinthia, Styria and Upper Austria (October 2026). Bridebook also says Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck are noticeably dearer than the countryside, though a Linz photographer argues the gap has mostly closed. Two or three lists a region are a guide, not an average: ask for the price at your venue, travel included.

### Do wedding photographer prices in Austria include VAT?

They should: Austria’s price-labelling act requires prices offered to consumers to include VAT, and the standard rate is 20%. A photographer under the €55,000 small-business threshold charges none. Of 16 price lists we read in October 2026, four said VAT was included, one charged none, one called its prices final and ten didn’t say — ask whether each quote is the final price.

### How much does an elopement photographer cost in Austria?

Published elopement prices run from €800 (a Tyrol photographer) to €5,700 for four hours with the photographer’s travel and room (an elopement specialist), as of October 2026; a registry office with a couple shoot costs €390–€1,690 in Austrian price lists, and Bridebook puts 2–3 hours under €800. Lifts, travel and an early start add to a mountain elopement; Lens & Vows elopement packages cover two to four hours.

### How far ahead should we book a wedding photographer in Austria?

Bridebook says many photographers are booked one to two years ahead for the popular months. In 2025 May was Austria’s busiest month for weddings, with 7,197, and Saturday 24 May had 844 (Statistik Austria), so book those dates first.

### How much deposit do we pay a wedding photographer?

It depends on the photographer’s contract. On Lens & Vows it is always 30% of the photographer’s price, paid through us when they accept, and it holds the date; the balance goes straight to the photographer or through us, in up to 3 instalments with an optional 5% payment-protection fee.
