**In short**

- Photographers commonly deliver about 50–75 edited photos per hour of coverage (Narrative, 2026); published packages from photographers in Portugal range from about 50 to 200 an hour.
- A full 8–12-hour wedding day typically gives about 400–1,000 edited photos, and a 2–4-hour elopement about 100–250 (published ranges, 2026).
- Of the 2,000–3,500 frames a photographer may take on a full day, roughly one in three or four is delivered; raw files are usually not included.
- Full galleries arrive in about 4 weeks to 3 months in photographers’ published terms in Portugal, 6–12 weeks being common; some send 15–20 preview photos shortly after the wedding, and some charge for faster delivery.
- Put three things in writing: a minimum number of edited photos, a delivery date, and how long the gallery stays online.

There is no standard number, and a higher one is not a better gallery. What exists are the numbers photographers publish in their packages and a few industry guides that summarise them — one of them by Photo Portugal, our sister site for photo sessions. Put side by side, they cluster: most land between about 50 and 100 edited photos per hour of coverage, with some photographers delivering far more. This guide sets out those published numbers, says whose each one is, and turns them into what to ask for. Figures are as published in 2025–2026 and checked in October 2026.

## How many photos per hour?

The published numbers, with our own division by the hours where a photographer gives a total for a package:

| Who published it | Coverage | Edited photos | Per hour, roughly |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Narrative (makers of photo-culling software), 2026 | Per hour of coverage | 50–75 | 50–75 |
| Chas Studios, Lisbon, 2025 | Per hour of coverage | About 80 | About 80 |
| Fotogénicos, Portugal (price list) | 8 hours | 400–700 | 50–88 |
| Fotogénicos, Portugal (price list) | 12 hours | 600–800 | 50–67 |
| Pedro Pulido Photography, 2026 | Full day, 10–12 hours | 600–1,000+ | 50–100 |
| Alexandra Efimova, Portugal (price list) | 10–12 hours | 1,500–2,000 | 125–200 |

Most of the published numbers sit at 50–100 an hour; a few photographers deliver well over 100. Neither end is wrong: a photographer who delivers 200 an hour includes more near-similar frames and more of the in-between moments; one who delivers 60 has chosen harder. What matters is whether the photos you need are there — so look at complete galleries before you choose, not just the numbers.

## How many photos by kind of day

| Ceremony only | 2 hours | 100–150 | Narrative, 2026 |
| Micro wedding, under about 30 guests | 4–6 hours | 200–400 | Photo Portugal, 2026 |
| Half day | 5–7 hours | 300–500 | Photo Portugal, 2026 |
| Full day, one photographer | 8 hours | 400–600 | Narrative, 2026 |
| [Full day](https://lensandvows.com/weddings/full-day) | 8–12 hours | 500–800+ | Photo Portugal, 2026 |
| Full day, two photographers | 10–12 hours | 600–900 | Narrative, 2026 |
| [Destination](https://lensandvows.com/weddings/destination), several days | 2–3 days | 800–1,500+ | Photo Portugal, 2026 |

To estimate your own, multiply the hours you are booking by the photographer’s usual rate — and ask them for it. [How many hours of photography you need](https://lensandvows.com/journal/how-many-hours-wedding-photography) covers the hours themselves.

## Why the numbers vary so much

- **How strictly the photographer chooses.** Near-identical frames, closed eyes and half-turned heads are what culling removes. Some keep three versions of a moment; others keep one.
- **A second photographer.** Two people cover two angles and two places at once: Narrative’s published range rises from 400–600 photos for eight hours with one photographer to 600–900 for 10–12 hours with two.
- **What happens in each hour.** The ceremony, the family photos and golden hour give many keepers; an hour of dancing gives fewer, and a long dinner fewer still.
- **What is counted.** Ask whether black-and-white versions of colour photos are counted separately, and whether detail shots and venue photos are in the total.
- **Film.** A roll of 120 film holds 8 to 16 frames, so a film or hybrid gallery is smaller by design: see [film or digital](https://lensandvows.com/journal/film-vs-digital-wedding-photography).

## Shot versus delivered

Professional wedding photographers take somewhere between **2,000 and 3,500 frames** on a full day, and **4,000 or more** with two photographers; roughly one in three or four is delivered — “shoot 3,000, deliver 750 to 1,000” (Narrative, 2026). The rest are duplicates, test frames and moments a second before or after the right one.

Photographers usually deliver edited photos only, not the raw files straight from the camera (Chas Studios, 2025). Raw files are unedited and unfinished, and the editing is part of what you pay for. If having them matters to you, ask before you book whether they are available at all, and at what price.

## How long until the full gallery?

| Who published it | Full gallery | Faster, or earlier |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Photo Portugal, 2026 | 6–12 weeks, typically | Rush editing for €200–€500, for delivery in under four weeks |
| Pedro Pulido Photography, 2026 | 8–12 weeks is typical | “Faster may indicate rushed editing” |
| Chas Studios, 2025 | 30–90 days | 15–20 sneak-peek photos shortly after the wedding |
| Fotogénicos, Portugal (price list) | 4–8 weeks | Delivery in one week for €150 more |
| Alexandra Efimova, Portugal (price list) | 2–3 months | Delivery in 14 days for €400 more |

Editing a wedding is days of work, and the busiest months — September and August, then July, June and May (INE, 2025) — bring many weddings in a few weeks, so a gallery from a June Saturday may join a queue. Ask for a date, or a number of weeks, in writing — and ask whether it changes in high season.

## Previews and sneak peeks

Some photographers send a small set before the full gallery: Chas Studios mentions **15–20 sneak-peek photos** shortly after the wedding. Previews are what you will share first, so ask how many, how soon, and in what size — and agree whether the photographer may post them too. Whether a photographer may show your photos at all is a contract point in its own right: see [image rights in the contract checklist](https://lensandvows.com/journal/wedding-photography-contract-checklist).

## What you receive, and for how long

- **An online gallery** of edited photos — check that you can download the full-resolution files, and whether web-sized versions for sharing are included.
- **How long it stays online.** Fotogénicos, for example, keeps galleries online for a year. Download everything as soon as it arrives and keep copies in more than one place.
- **Print rights.** Ask whether you may print the photos yourselves, and at what size.
- **An album** is a separate product, priced on its own: see [what a wedding photographer costs](https://lensandvows.com/journal/wedding-photographer-cost-portugal).

## On Lens & Vows

Each package can show roughly how many photos it includes and in how many weeks they arrive, so you can compare galleries as well as prices; what you booked is the package plus anything you and the photographer agree in writing in our messages. When the gallery arrives, look through all of it. If something you agreed on is missing, tell the photographer — and us — before you accept it. A gallery nobody answers is accepted automatically 14 days after delivery, and accepting is what releases any balance you paid through us to the photographer: [how deposits and payment protection work](https://lensandvows.com/journal/deposits-and-payment-protection).

## What to put in writing

- **A minimum number of edited photos** — Narrative’s advice is that “the number in your contract should be a minimum, not a target”.
- **The delivery date**, or a number of weeks, and whether high season changes it.
- **Previews**: how many, and when.
- **The format**: full-resolution files, web-sized copies, colour and black-and-white.
- **How long the gallery stays online**, and how you download it.
- **Raw files**, if you want them, and their price.
- **What happens if delivery is late.** The [contract checklist](https://lensandvows.com/journal/wedding-photography-contract-checklist) covers this and the rest.

## Questions couples ask

### How many photos should a wedding photographer deliver?

For a full 8–12-hour day, published ranges are about 400–1,000 edited photos, and some photographers deliver 1,500 or more. For a 2–4-hour elopement, about 100–250. Ask for a minimum number in writing and look at complete galleries, because a higher number is not a better gallery.

### How many wedding photos per hour is normal?

About 50–75 edited photos per hour of coverage is a common published benchmark (Narrative, 2026), and photographers in Portugal publish packages working out at roughly 50–100 an hour, with a few well above. The ceremony and portraits give more keepers per hour than dinner or the dance floor.

### How long does it take to get wedding photos back?

In photographers’ published terms in Portugal, the full gallery takes about 4 weeks to 3 months, with 6–12 weeks common. Some send 15–20 preview photos shortly after the wedding, and some sell faster delivery for an extra fee. Agree a date or a number of weeks in writing.

### Do wedding photographers give you all the photos?

No: they deliver a selection, edited. Of the 2,000–3,500 frames taken on a full day, roughly one in three or four is delivered; the rest are duplicates, test frames and near misses. Raw, unedited files are usually not included; if you want them, ask before booking.

### What is a wedding sneak peek?

A small set of finished photos sent before the full gallery — 15–20 shortly after the wedding, in one Lisbon studio’s terms. It gives you something to share while the rest is edited. Ask how many to expect and when, and whether the photographer will post them too.

### How many photos do you get from an elopement?

For 2–4 hours of coverage, published ranges are about 100–250 edited photos (Photo Portugal, 2026); a two-hour ceremony with portraits gives about 100–150 (Narrative, 2026). More places and more of the last light mean more variety, not just more photos.
